Non-exhaustive list of materials that our machines cut

These materials are removable to the hot wire, may be in the form of foam, plates, injected parts, fibers or honeycomb structure.

 

It is especially the preferred material for household appliances. Vacuum housings and coffee makers are often made of ABS. In this case, it is most often injected parts. In wire form, it is used in 3D printers. The Danish toy manufacturer Lego® uses it to make its building bricks. This is one of the particularities that gives them their quality. ABS is also used in the nautical industries, in the automotive field.

  • Evazote (EVA)

This resin has a more elastomeric character than polyethylene. Indeed, the introduction of the acetate unit decreases the crystallinity, so the rigidity. This allows more flexibility and better resistance to shocks, even at low temperatures. The copolymers contain about 20% by weight of vinyl acetate comonomer. Their adhesive properties are closely related to the polarity of the latter. EVA is found in many sectors of activity such as packaging, food, medical, automotive and construction.

  • Polyethylene (PE)

Polyethylene, or polyethene, is one of the simplest and cheapest polymers. It belongs to the family of polyolefins. It is a thermoplastic polymer, translucent, chemically inert (it is more resistant to strong oxidants than polypropylene), easy to handle and resistant to cold.

Primary use: aeronautics, space industry, medical, composite materials

  • Cross-linked polyethylene (PER)

In the form of foam it is also called polyethylene foam or polyolefin or emalene. One of the best-known trademarks is Plastazote®.

  • Polymethacrylimide (PMI)

This material, better known under the trade name "Rohacell®", is used in high-tech industries:
It has exceptional mechanical qualities and can also be thermoformed.

  • Expanded Polypropylene (EPP)

Expanded polypropylene, EPP acronym in English or EPP according to EN ISO 1043-1, is a white foam resembling expanded polystyrene, but with a shape memory allowing it to deform without breaking and keep its structure.

  • Expanded polystyrene (EPS)

This material has a low carbon footprint because it is composed of more than 98% of air.
It recycles very well and is a very good thermal insulator.
The blocks have dimensions up to 1.2 X 1.2 X 6 meters.

  • Extruded Polystyrene (XPS)

Of the same composition as expanded polystyrene, the extruded polystyrene differs in its method of manufacture. It has the same qualities as the PSE but with a much better mechanical resistance. It is available as plates up to 20 cm thick.

Primary use:  composite materials, lettering, decoration, building industry, packaging,molding, prototype...

  • Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)

PET is a saturated polyester.

Primary use: textile fibers, beverage bottles, packaging, etc

  • Polyurethane (PU)

Flexible polyurethane foams are particularly used in furniture.

Primary use:  seating seats, mattresses and sofas.

  • Polycarbonate (PC)

    It is a polymer resulting from the polycondensation of bisphenol A (BPA) and a carbonate or phosgene, or by transesterification. This gives a plastic material having excellent mechanical properties and a thermal resistance allowing use between -100 ° C and 120 ° C.

Primary use:  nautical industries, automotive sector

Some materials have very slow cutting speeds and / or leave a deposit on the wire.
