EPS (or polystyrene) is made of 98% of air, therefore extremely safe and above all non toxic. It offers environmental advantages and has many useful properties like lightness, thermal insulation, various densities, waterproofness, strength, shock-resistance ....
This material offers many possibilities after use. EPS is indeed at 100% recyclable and re-usable. After use, various sectors can give it a second life through multiple applications either under its expanded form or under its extruded form.
EPS packaging can be recycled in its expanded form: After being grinded into beads, It can be re-introduced in production to make either new packaging, blocks or boards for containing until 30 % recycled material. EPS can also be used to produce lightweight concrete for building markets or in Civil engineering. EPS can also used in drain protection for agriculture or in soil improvement for horticulture.
EPS can be recycled in its extruded form: It can also be extruded to produce polystyrene granules, which are used as secondary raw material for various applications of manufactured plastics items such as CD and video cases, disposable camera bodies, coat hangers, plant pots... CROMA participates in this action by marketing its Grinder Compactor and its Recycler Unit.
